Shitennoji Temple II Shitennoji Temple IIIBuddha with PagodaShitennoji Temple I

Constructed in 593, it is the first alleged buddhist temple in Japan. When Buddhist-leaning Prince Shotoku defeated the Shinto-favouring Mononobe clan, he built this temple as a monument.

Japanese have a special relationship with religion as they are ‘born shintoist, married christian and die buddhist’, this temple is a perfect illustration of this. The devotion in this temple was well present in a perfect quiet japanese style.
